Program Description:

CSUF: Food and Multiculturalism in Copenhagen, Denmark (summer 2019)

Beautiful Copenhagen

Denmark consistently ranks among the happiest countries in the world. This four-week program considers the secrets behind Danes’ contentment with special emphases on food and diversity. Together we will learn about Denmark’s rich culture and history, as well as the country’s response to rising diversity within its borders. We will explore the beautiful city of Copenhagen—its neighborhoods, museums, castles, and restaurants. Activities will include a tour of the diverse Norrebro neighborhood; a guided visit to Torvehallerne food market; dinner at a “New Nordic” restaurant; and dinner at home with a Danish family. Students will have the chance to give back through service at a food-sharing non-profit and a camp for low-income children.

"This month long program in Copenhagen, Denmark was the perfect length for busy 20 somethings that want to get a taste of Europe, the perfect location for the authentic european experience with a sustainable twist, and the best price poor college folk that still want to enjoy a rich experience in beautiful land that you're not that familiar with. I think this program offers great insight into the layers beneath the surface of the happy, hygge Scandinavia. There is so much to do and see, time flies in the best way possible. I highly recommend this trip to first time Europe travelers who might be nervous to travel by themselves to somewhere that they have never been. Professor Carrie Lane knocks it out of the park with one. If she hasn't convinced you to do this program already, then hopefully this will." (2018)

"This program is one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Copenhagen is a beautiful, safe, and historic city to visit. You get a chance to see the world and learn along the way. The friends I made and the stories we made will follow me the rest of my life. I can't praise this program enough!" (2018)
