Program Highlights

  • Earn 3 units of upper division GE credit.
  • The required course is instructed by a CSUF faculty member and will count towards your degree.
  • Spend 3 weeks in Hanoi, Vietnam learning about the country's profound history and rich culture.
  • Participate in many cultural and educational tours such as a tour of the Museum of Vietnamese History, the Museum of Ethnology, Friendship Village, Buddhist and Daoist Temples, the Han Nom Institute, overnight excursion to Ha Long Bay, and many more.
  • Study with students at Vietnam National University and build international relationships.

Course and Faculty

HUM 350: Vietnamese Life and Culture (REQUIRED) (3 units) [GE – C.3 & Z] 
This study abroad program in Hanoi, Vietnam introduces students to Vietnamese history, culture, and society through threads such as tributary system, Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, regionalism, colonialism, nationalism, socialism, and capitalism. It involves both reading written materials and visiting important historical sites and museums in Vietnam, primarily in Hanoi. Students are expected to gain good understanding of rapid-changing Vietnamese society and economy and the main features of Vietnamese culture.

Students will stay in double-rooms at Capital Garden Hotel or a similar hotel for the duration of the program.

Costs & Financial Aid

Program Fee $1,475.00
The program fee will cover lodging for 17 nights weeks in Hanoi and on overnight excursions, ground transportation in Vietnam, all program field trips, tours and non-optional excursions, classroom meeting space, international travel insurance and most morning meals and one (1) group dinner. 

The program fee is based on a minimum student enrollment. If the student enrollment falls below the minimum, CSUF reserves the right to adjust the program fee to accommodate a smaller number of students.

Passport & Visa

You must have a valid passport for at least six (6) months after the date of international departure.  U.S. passport applications can be obtained at any major post office. See here for more information.  This process usually takes about 4-6 weeks, so plan early to apply for a new or renewed passport.

U.S. passport holders require a tourist visa to enter the country of Vietnam.  Find visa and entry information here.

Non-US passport holders should inquire with the Vietnam Embassy about visa requirements for their country of origin.  Please click here for embassy contact information.
