CSUF: Global Titans First Year Experience
Overview
The CSUF Global Titans First-Year Experience Program is open to ALL first year students.  The program provides an opportunity for Titans to participate in study abroad / away during their first year on campus.  Highlights and learning goals associated with this study abroad option in January 2019 are indicated below.


Program highlights and learning goals include:
  • Interdisciplinary service learning and community-based experiences focused on environmental consciousness, economic development, and social impact.
  • International experience and enhancing personal, academic, and professional development outcomes.
  • Interactions with peers and local experts focused on environmental, economic, and social issues in one of two locations.

Program Logistics 
  • Dates:  January 8 to January 14, 2019
  • Housing: Potentially includes hotel and/or camp-like lodging components. 
  • Locations:
    • Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
    • Santiago, Dominican Republic
    • La Paz, Mexico
    • Toledo/South Water Caye, Belize
Note: Students will rate their preferred location from 1-4. While student preference to location will be taken into account, final selection of the site will be undertaken by the selection committee

Course
The Global Titans First Year Experience Program Abroad Winter Session 2019 is a co-curricular, non-credit, optional program. 

Costs & Financial Aid
Program Fee
Program fees are estimated at $1,100 and include transfers, lodging, specified service-learning and community-based experiences, designated meals, and required international health insurance.  

The program fee is based on a minimum student enrollment. If the student enrollment falls below the minimum, CSUF reserves the right to adjust the program fee to accommodate a smaller number of students.  

Additional Costs Not included in the Program Fee
  • International airfare - Varies by program location
  • Designated meals
  • Passport and visa fees as applicable
  • Immunizations
  • Personal expenses (e.g., entertainment, shopping) and excursions not included in the program itinerary

Passport and Visa Info
You must have a valid passport for at least six (6) months after the date of international departure.  U.S. passport applications can be obtained at any major post office. See here for more information.  This process usually takes about 4-6 weeks, so plan early to apply for a new or renewed passport.

U.S. passport holders do not require a tourist visa to enter the countries of Belize, Mexico, or the Dominican Republic for this program.  Find visa and entry information here.

Non-US passport holders should inquire with the Mexican or Dominican Republic embassies about visa requirements for their country of origin.

Early application deadline is September 8th, 2018.
Early application decision notifications to be sent by September 8th, 2018.

Payment Schedule
Initial deposit: 
$200, due by October 12, 2018 (Refundable up to October 26th).
First Payment: $300, due by October 26, 2018 (Nonrefundable).
Second Payment: $300due by November 9, 2018 (Nonrefundable).
Third Payment: $300, due by November 30, 2018 (Nonrefundable).
