March 7 Deadline for Generation Study Abroad Travel Grants |
|
|
Round 2 applications for Summer & Fall 2018 programs are open to U.S. undergraduate students enrolled at a U.S. college or university that is a Generation Study Abroad Commitment Partner. The scholarship program is intended to diversify study abroad and to encourage students to go abroad who would otherwise not participate in an international experience as part of their college education, especially in support of high-achieving, low-income students.
A cohort of exceptional undergraduate students will be selected, with consideration given to the following factors: financial need; status as first-generation college students; status as members of underrepresented racial/ethnic/gender groups; disabilities; and the lack of experience with travel abroad. The Travel Grant would help provide these students with international opportunities that are in line with their academic and professional goals, and essential for today’s graduates.
For more regarding eligibility requirements and application details, check out the Travel Grants webpage.
Follow our current Generation Study Abroad Ambassadors on Instagram and Facebook.
IIE Generation Study Abroad Travel Grants are made possible by the generous support of private donors. Lead funding to launch the program has been provided by Santander US. To help open the doors to the world for more students and help their future take flight, IIE welcomes donations to our Generation Study Abroad Travel Grants.

Making a Case for Personal Connection in the Digital World
In Grant McPherson's guest blog on IIE's Opening Minds, the Chief Executive of Education New Zealand discusses how studying abroad better prepares students for a world that is reliant on technology while also helping them step out of their comfort zone. He addresses the fear international educators have because they think digital capabilities, such as online courses, will result in fewer students going abroad. McPherson explains that technology will never take away the importance of personal connection, which studying abroad provides. |

The American Abroad conference was held on January 16th, 2018 at the American Center in Ho Chi Minh City, co-hosted by Student Exchange Vietnam, Generation Study Abroad Commitment Partner, and the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. IIE was present to discuss data from IIE's 2017 Open Doors and why U.S. study abroad participation in Vietnam has not increased despite the low-cost, good English-language levels, and perception as a safe country.
